Music Links

Dancers and families: It is crucial that at-home practice include run throughs of each dance to music. This helps dancers improve their timing and develop musicality in their dancing. As your dancer progresses, their music requirements may change. If you are not sure what songs to play, please ask a teacher in class!

The links below will send you to songs that can be access for free on Youtube. Families may also choose to purchase the FeisApp or the Beat Feis Music app for a monthly subscription fee.

Light Shoe Dances

Beginner reel and slip jig music is faster and designed for dancers who are preparing for First Feis, or competing in Beginner 1 and Beginner 2. Once a dancer moves to Novice in competition, they will use the music found at the "slow" links. Light jig music is the same for all levels.

Heavy Shoe Dances

Traditional treble jig and hornpipe music is faster and designed for dancers who are dancing their fast jig and hornpipe, and/or competing in Beginner 1 and Beginner 2. Once a dancer moves to Novice and Prizewinner in competition, they will be given the option of competing with slow or fast music, corresponding to the dances they have been practicing in class.*.

*Note that some dancers may learn their slow treble jig or hornpipe before reaching the Novice level in competitions. However, Beginner 1 and Beginner 2 do NOT offer slow and fast music - all dancers must dance their fast jig and hornpipe at these levels.

Traditional Set Dances

Each traditional set dance has standard music and choreography associated with it. BC dancers will learn St. Patrick's Day first. As dancers progress, they may be taught a variety of traditional set dances*.

*Note that every traditional set requires different skills and techniques. Some dancers may continue dancing St. Patrick's Day in order to perfect technique before moving on to a new set dance.
